Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal, Retired Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, has been appointed as the President of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).  

Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal succeeds Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar, who was former Chief Justice of Manipur High Court, and served the NCLT since November 2021 until he demitted the office on 13th February, 2026. 

About Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal 

Early Life and Family Background 

Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal was born on 10th March 1964 in an originally agriculturist family from Ludhiana district in Punjab. His father retired as a Chief Engineer, Punjab PWD (B&R) in 1981. His late maternal grandfather retired as an IAS officer in 1956. 

Education 

Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal completed schooling at St. John’s High School, Chandigarh, followed by ISC (Class 12) in 1982 from Yadavindra Public School, Patiala. He graduated with a B.A. (Honours) in History in 1985 and completed his M.A. (History) in 1987 from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. He obtained his LL.B. degree in 1992 from the University of Delhi. 

Legal Career and Practice 

Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal began legal practice in 1992 at the Punjab & Haryana High Court. He served as the Assistant Advocate General, Punjab from 10th March 1995 till 21st April 1997. Subsequently, he was appointed as Deputy Advocate General, re-designated as Senior Deputy Advocate General, then served as Additional Advocate General, Punjab from 7th September 2005 until his elevation. Over a period exceeding 19 years, he argued significant cases related to civil, constitutional, criminal, service, land acquisition, and public interest litigation on behalf of the State of Punjab. 

Judicial Career 

Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Punjab & Haryana High Court on 25th September 2014. He was transferred to the Rajasthan High Court in December 2014 and sworn in as a Permanent Judge on 20th May 2016. Subsequently, he was transferred back to the Punjab & Haryana High Court, where he assumed charge on 5th October 2016 and served until his retirement on 9th March, 2026.
